The American Legion Auxiliary is recognized as a tax exempt veterans’ organization under Section 501(c)(19) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code which allows for federal tax exemption of nonprofit organizations. In accordance with 26 U.S.C. § 170, donations are deductible, for federal income tax purposes, for donors who make charitable contributions.

As a 501-c (19) nonprofit veterans’ organization we must follow these rules as outlined by the Internal Revenue Service:
Don’t endorse or oppose a candidate for public office
Don’t coordinate activities with a candidate
Don’t make contributions to a candidate
Don’t manage, fund or organize a Political Action Committee
